Rediff Labs Utilizes Data Sets to Reveal Hidden Statistics on Diseases and Women’s Conditions

Mumbai, India, December 16, 2014 - Rediff.com India Pvt. Ltd (NASDAQ: REDF)(“Rediff” or the “Company”), a premier worldwide online provider of news, information, communication, entertainment and shopping services to Indians worldwide, today announced that its Rediff Labs has revealed hidden statistics on deadly diseases and women’s conditions.

The data presented by Rediff Labs helped analyze how deaths due to the three deadliest diseases in India, respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease and diabetes, were on the decline while cancer was claiming more lives than before. Rediff Labs was also able to ascertain from the data changes in number of child deaths due to various causes that include premature birth, respiratory disease, diarrhoeal disease, birth suffocation and trauma. A third set of data focused on Malaria and Dengue, the two deadliest mosquito borne diseases, was presented on an interactive map so that users can find if their area is affected more by either disease.

Rediff Labs has created an interactive maps platform to give users a snapshot view of women's literacy and working women's population across India. From the data gathered by Rediff Labs, users can use the interactive maps to view which parts of India consist of the highest women's literacy rates and the highest working women's population compared to areas that are lagging behind. The interactive maps allow users to view details of the statistics mapped and zoom and pan the map to explore any part of India in depth.

Ajit Balakrishnan, Chairman and CEO of Rediff, commented “Our proprietary Rediff Labs aggregates and analyzes large data sets to uncover statistics that paint a new picture on issues such as deadly disease mortalities as well as the literacy and employment rates of Indian women in various districts. We feel that Rediff Labs is part of the next generation of news services that users demand, offering news in an interactive and visual format backed by large data sets. In an age of big data, the challenge is to interpret that data into something easily understood and meaningful and we believe Rediff Labs accomplishes that for our users.”
